Desktop virtualization provider Ncomputing announced last week that second quarter results have put the company on track for annual sales of 1 million seats for its virtualization solutions.
According to the announcement, the NComputing solution is built around the idea that, given the power of today's PCs, several users can utilize the resources of a single computer through virtualization. Using the company's access device, multiple keyboards and monitors can connect to a single PC, providing availability to users at a fraction of the cost of physical machines.
"NComputing desktop virtualization software combines the best features of solutions like VMware and Citrix, with costs at a fraction of those alternatives, and with far better performance, lower support demands, and a higher-quality end-user experience" said Stephen Dukker, chairman and CEO of NComputing, in a prepared statement. "With revolutionary pricing and performance, the benefits of virtualization are now available to every type of organization--from small business to global enterprise; from local municipalities to national governments; and from K-12 schools to colleges and universities."
According to the company, their X300 solution can support up to 7 users on a single PC. The L-series hardware supports up to 30 users on a single PC, with well over a hundred supported on a robust server. The solution starts at around $70 per seat, and uses as little as 1 watt per user, making it a greener alternative to traditional computing.
