National Public School Profile
Some pertinent-- and interesting-- numbers about US education, at a glance
If you sell to more than one state and you find your head spinning sometimes, it's no wonder! For example, if your region is the mid-Atlantic, a district-level sale in Maryland, with only 24 districts, is very different from one in Virginia, which has 132. And if Pennsylvania is in your territory, you're schlepping to 500 districts! Next time you're called to a meeting and asked to explain sales expenditures in one region or another, take this chart with you.
(1) 2006-2007 Public School Enrollment.
(2) 2006-2007 All Instructional Materials Expenditure identifies districts and public schools by the district's per pupil expenditure for all instructional materials, which represents spending for all supplies and materials used for instructional purposes. This includes expenditures for hard cover and soft cover textbooks, textbook repairs, and workbooks. It also includes expenditures for instructional supplies, such as paper, pencils, crayons, art and music supplies, science supplies, shop supplies, testing materials, and other classroom materials. Also included are expenditures for books, magazines, and newspaper subscriptions purchased for the school library. Educational media supplies, such as videos, CDs, DVDs, and software, are included. Purchases of hardware, such as computers, DVD players, and TVs, are not included. This information is gathered from the state education departments that provide expenditures at the district level.
