RAID Inks Deal with NEC To Distribute Grid Storage Platform

11/20/2008

RAID Inc. and NEC have announced an agreement that will allow RAID to license NEC's HYDRAstor HS8 grid storage line of products and the HYDRAstor trademark, selling them under the RAID HYDRAstor brand.

RAID will add the HYDRAstor line to its suite of "building block product families" aimed at the government and education markets. According to the announcement, benefits of the platform include:

  • Linear scalability, allowing accelerator nodes and storage nodes to be scaled independently;
  • Unified global deduplication, intended to reduce storage capacity needs;
  • Distributed Resilient Data (DRD) technology, aimed at improving data resiliency; and
  • Asynchronous grid-to-grid replication, helping streamline the disaster-recover process.

"RAID is excited to be expanding its partnership with NEC. NEC's line of storage products offer our clients solutions that are not only reliable, but scalable and of the highest quality," said Bob Picardi, COO of RAID Inc, in a prepared statement. "HYDRAstor's innovative grid architecture enables IT to independently scale both performance and capacity and take advantage of new greener technology without a fork-lift upgrade. Global deduplication cuts capacity consumption by 95% to reduce footprint, power and cooling costs. We believe that each of our customers is unique and NEC's HYDRAstor storage platform allows us to tailor to those individual storage needs and deliver the optimal storage solution."

According to the company, RAID Inc. will offer consulting services in conjunction with the new HYDRAstor platform. At the time of this writing, product pricing was not available.
