Unicon Helps Colleges, Universities with Open Source Services Projects

Unicon has announced the completion of more than 20 new open source services projects for colleges, universities, and business around the United States in the third quarter of 2008.

According to the announcement, the company has helped organizations with a range of open source platforms including Central Authentication Service (CAS), Sakai, uPortal, and Zimbra. Services provided by Unicon include deployment, accelerated development, consulting, application and system integration, training, and support.

"As open source solutions have matured and are now in place at many of the world's most leading academic institutions, people are recognizing how powerful they have become in terms of functionality, performance, scalability, and security," said John C. Blakley, president and CEO of Unicon, in a prepared statement. "The lower costs associated with deploying and maintaining open source solutions are making it more attractive than ever."

Among those contracting with Unicon are University of Georgia, Louisiana State University, Johns Hopkins University, Art Center College of Design, Pearson Education, University of Hawaii System, Cisco, as well as several others.
