Michael Gould Joins ESRI, Promotes GIS On Campus

ESRI has recently announced that Michael Gould will join the company as director of education.

Gould brings more than 20 years of experience in teaching and research to his new role at ESRI. Most recently, he served as an interdisciplinary professor of information systems at Universitat Jaume I, Castellón, Spain. Gould had also worked as a GIS advisor to government agencies in Europe, as well as corporations including Microsoft and ESRI. Additionally, Gould chaired the management board for the Association of Geographic Information Laboratories in Europe (AGILE).

"Solving the problems of the 21st century requires a populace that's adept at creating and using geospatial technology, "said ESRI president, Jack Dangermond, in a prepared statement. "Michael Gould is a thought leader in the international GIS community who will help foster the open sharing of information and new forms of cooperation and collaboration with the education community."

According to the announcement, Gould will help the company promote "spatial literacy" among students in all disciplines. Gould will also be responsible for supporting the implementation of geographic information system (GIS) technology throughout the academic community.
