EBSCO Publishing has recently announced the acquisition of Salem Press, a move aimed at enhancing the resources available to EBSCOhost subscribers.
According to the announcement, the deal comes after years of collaboration between EBSCO and Salem Press, with Salem providing a range of content for the EBSCOhost databases. Content areas affected by the deal include literature, history, and consumer health, with EBSCO anticipating near-term expansion into science.
"We've had a great relationship with Salem Press for years, and this was a logical move considering the magnitude of our existing partnership," said EBSCO Publishing President, Tim Collins, in a prepared statement. "With this team in place, we can not only ensure stability of this great content in our databases, but be positioned well for steadily improving our databases, and adding content in areas of need."
Through the acquisition, EBSCO will digitize the Salem content, expanding the publisher's reach into "tens of thousands" of institutions worldwide.
In other EBSCO news, the company has announced a distribution partnership with Consumers Union allowing libraries to subscribe to ConsumerReports.org and access the resource alongside other EBSCOhost databases.
According to the announcement, libraries will have access to a range of product and service reviews, ratings, and recommendations for a fixed annual subscription rate. As of this writing, actual subscription rates were not available.
