Netsweeper Provides Content Filtering for Intel, MOREnet

Internet content filtering provider Netsweeper Inc. has recently joined the Intel Classmate PC Ecosystem Vendor Alliance. The new relationship makes Netsweeper one of approximately 80 local and regional companies providing value-added services in support of Intel's Classmate PC.

According to the announcement, Netsweeper has developed a content filtering solution specifically for the Classmate PC that is both CIPA- and Becta-compliant. Features of the solution include virus and malware protection, e-learning reporting and tracking capabilities, and mobile device tracking and filtering, among others.

"Joining the Intel-powered classmate PC Ecosystem Alliance is an extension of Netsweeper's continuous effort to make the Internet an affordable and safe educational environment for students and teachers globally," said Andrew Coutts, President and COO of Netsweeper, in a prepared statement.

In other Netsweeper news, the company has been selected by the Missouri Research and Education Network (MOREnet) to provide content filtering solutions to the MOREnet's consortium members, including K-12 schools, higher education institutions, and a range of government and public service organizations.

The new solution will be available to MOREnet members as either a hosted service or as a stand-alone solution. Features will include customizable administration rights and remote filtering capabilities aimed at protecting laptops and mobile devices.

"We are excited about teaming up with Netsweeper," said Charles Steinhaus, Network Engineer at MOREnet, in a prepared statement. "Throughout the process, it became apparent that Netsweeper not only understood our requirements but had the product features our subscribers are seeking."

According to the announcement, current MOREnet members subscribing to the consortium's filtering service will be transitioned over to the Netsweeper solution by July 1, 2009.
