VMware has recently launched the VMware Partner University, a new Web-based environment aimed at providing ecosystem partners with up-to-date training and information on a range of VMware products and services.

According to the announcement, the new "virtual campus" offers role-based training paths and is intended to provide tools to help partners improve processes and increase sales revenue. Organized into "strategic solution areas," the Partner University includes resources, accreditation, and certifications for pre-sales, sales, and post-sales professionals.

"VMware is committed to providing partners at all levels with the high-quality training and education they need to accelerate revenue and profitability from their virtualization practices," said Ben Matheson, senior director of global partner marketing, VMware, in a prepared statement. "VMware Partner University is the next evolution of this focus, enabling partners to earn certifications that will differentiate their virtualization practices in the marketplace. Regardless of whether the partner is new to virtualization or a VMware veteran, VMware Partner University is a one-stop virtual campus that offers employees the training they need to meet their individual goals and requirements."

According to the company, VMware posted revenues of $1.9 billion in 2008, with a customer base of more than 130,000. The VMware partner ecosystem consists of more than 22,000 members worldwide.
