Desktone, ICC Global Hosting Use Cloud To Deliver VDI to Schools, Public Sector

4/29/2009

Desktone has entered into a partnership with ICC Global Hosting aimed at delivering desktops as a service (DaaS) to organizations in the academic and public sectors, as well as mid-tier businesses.

The service uses Desktone's Virtual-D Platform to deliver virtual hosted desktops through ICC'c cloud computing services. The companies first shared customer--Pike County School District--has projected a 64% total cost of ownership (TCO) savings over building and deploying their own virtual desktop infrastructure.

"DaaS is a great way for organizations to quickly realize the benefits of cloud computing without upfront CAPEX investments," said Tim Hites, President of ICC Global Hosting, in a prepared statement. "We partnered with Desktone to deliver this because they offer the only platform specifically designed for the service provider model. It provides the capabilities needed to offer a reliable, flexible and highly scalable virtual desktop hosting service to organizations across the country."

ICC offers three levels of Virtual-D powered DaaS delivery:

  • Bronze Desktop, providing Windows XP desktops in a non-persistent pooled environment;
  • Silver Desktop, with Windows XP desktops, an expanded image, additional memory, and 15% of the total desktops in a persistent static environment; and
  • Gold Desktop, including all of the features of the Silver level, with added memory and a larger desktop image.
