SAS has broadened the availability of SAS OnDemand for Academics, a service that allows faculty and students to integrate advanced data analysis in their teaching and learning activities. Education software company Blackboard has opened its fifth international data center. The latest one is located in Sydney, Australia, to host software services for higher education clients based in Asia Pacific time zones. Sun Microsystems Tuesday completed its $1 billion acquisition of MySQL AB, a decision that was announced back in mid-January. Coinciding with the completion of the acquisition, Sun also made available MySQL's complete portfolio of products through its global sales and services organization. Sun Microsystems yesterday announced plans to purchase German software developer innotek, the maker of VirtualBox, a set of open source x86 virtualization tools for home and enterprise users.
