Trussville City School District in Alabama has selected Bit9 Parity to secure its computers, replacing application control technology from Lumension Security. The new school district, with five schools and 4,150 students, created a state-of-the art, technology-focused curriculum that uses blogs, podcasts, and other Web 2.0 approaches as part of the learning process. Dougherty County Schools in Albany, GA has selected DeepNines iTrust to secure its students and control its network. The 17,000-student district found that despite its investment in a content filter, students were using Web proxies and other circumvention techniques to access inappropriate material online during school hours. Dallas County Schools has awarded MDI a contract to begin implementing the first phase of a school safety and security program within school facilities. That includes centralizing safety and security operations into the county school district's headquarters building. It will include the installation of security technology such as infrared detectors, biometric fingerprint readers, integrated time and attendance, and networked IP and wireless video surveillance. Fargo Public School District will be implementing NetSupport School (NSS), a classroom management program that allows the teacher or media instructor to control website access and record computer activities. The district has 14 public elementary schools, three middle schools, and two high schools, as well as an alternative high school. Enrollment is around 11,000, and district employs about 1,000 people.
